Gozen Saga

Worlds of the Terra Confederation

The Terra Confederation

Because the planets of the Gozen Saga are connected only via teletransers (fixed interplanetary teleporters), each world largely governs themselves with minimal oversight by a central government, This means each world has its own government, can establish its own rules and customs, and avoids control by a government that may not understand the nuances of local politics.

Not all human-settled worlds belong to the Terra Confederation, but most do. Worlds of the Terra Confederation must help pay to maintain the military, but receive protection from them in return. Furthermore, the Terra Confederation government ensures fairness in trade negotiations, establishes a common currency, and handles similar regulatory burdens. Terra Confederation worlds also receive preference for establishing new teletraminals, and most planetary governments crave the economic boon they would bring.

Worlds

Note: the list of planets includes spoilers for the books.

The following is an incoomplete list of worlds. Others (to be revealed later) also exist. Most unmentioned worlds are terraformed planets with little to distinguish them from each other.

Albero

Homeworld of the Alberan subrace of humans, Albero is a planet on the outer edge of its sun's habitable zone, resulting in an arctic climate. Pine forests cover much of the land, and large areas have been set aside for imported wildlife. The sky is lavender.

Amasis

A terraformed world covered with thriving jungles orbiting small twin suns. Lies far from Mosran and other core worlds.

Betelea

A world with intelligent native life, primarily covered in swamps. Initially friendly to humans who settled on the planet, the native Crislaks recently shifted their position, and tribal wars broke out across Betelea. In most cities, the Confederation military only defends the teletraminal cities, while armed militia groups wage war against the numerically superior natives.

Aside from the intelligent Crislaks, Betelea is home to a wide diversity of life, including the following:

Brandywine

A prosperous terraformed world.

Calfuray

A terraformed heavy-world with significantly more gravity than Earth. Home of the Calfuran subrace.

Cinone

A terraformed world with a ring system orbiting a blue-white star. Familial clans govern and shape its culture. Only about 10% of people on Cinone belong to a clan, but are recognizable by the distinctive tattoos on their cheeks.

Crusoe

A terraformed world with over 90% water cover. Landmasses are small—the largest is barely large enough to be considered a continent. A few have volcanic activity. The world has occasional storms, but the temperature remains moderate throughout the year. Its year is short (about 240 days), and it has two small moons.

Delgade

Mostly a desert world with striking badlands and vast salt plains. Home of the Delgan subrace of humanity. Exports include citrus cacti and other genetically engineered fruits that thrive in the environment.

Human bioengineers have designed several species of animals and plants that now thrive on Delgade. These include:

Earth

Homeworld of humanity, centuries in the future. Applications of terraforming technologies are reversing ecological damage, and the world has become more unified under central leadership. Countries still exist, and the few cities with teletransers have become major hubs of commerce. Overall, the population is smaller, as humanity has spread out across other worlds.

Hellscape

A beautiful world lush with golden vegetation. Humanity has only explored a fraction of Hellscape's surface, but most native fauna resembles six-legged octopi. Known creatures include:

Isis

Another stable terraformed world, serving as a cultural center and the heart of fashion. One of the older worlds of the Terra Confederation. The planet has rings and three small moons; the skies are saffron yellow during the daytime.

Karrane

Homeworld of the Hielcoo, though they abandoned it for about a thousand years. Cooler than Earth, it has purple vegetation and a peach-colored sky. Most native species have exoskeletons and six limbs. Humans established several cities before the Hielcoo's return; now, the two races are learning about each other.

Karrane has a diverse biosphere, with many unique plants and animals. Most native animals (including the Hielcoo) have six limbs and a partial exoskeleton.

Kurag

Homeworld of the Kuragens, therefore not terraformed. Many native lifeforms are partially composed of energy, including the Kuragens. Humans have established small cities, but it has only a nominal military force.

Luna

Earth's moon. It is home to several research bases and energy stations. It also serves as a refueling point for spaceships traveling throughout the Earth's solar system.

Mars

Due to its smaller size and low gravity, efforts to terraform Mars largely failed. However, humans still constructed domed cities on its surface. It has become something of a backwater world.

Mosran

A terraformed world, home of the Mosran Mech Academy and research facilities. Mosran orbits around one star of a binary system; the other star is known as the Sunsister. Sunsister lies about twice as far away as Pluto's orbit from Sol and can be seen during the daytime. Mosran has a short day-night cycle and no moons.

Naipini

A world with native life, thus not terraformed. Home to megamites and other quasi-insectoid life forms that erupt from the ground every few years, consuming other organic matter. While most pose no danger to humans, rarer monstrosities appear in cycles of 12-13 years or longer. When humans first settled the planet, they exterminated some of the insect hives around the first city, only to discover the insectoids were a necessary part of the natural cycle of life. Now the military just defends cities from attack.

Like most non-terraformed worlds with native life, Naipini is home to a wide variety of creatures, including:

New Braseil

A stable terraformed world, far from any troubles

Olnaor

Another terraformed world.

Paydirt

A terraformed world covered with abundant woods. Sports involving tree-climbing and brachiation are popular.

Perere

An uninhabited world that is being explored and prepared for terraforming. High winds have worn down most geographic features. Has a fast rotation and three moons.

Sienna

A planet dominated by mining consortiums. Land and claim disputes are common; the military sometimes has to intercede to resolve them.

Skyflower

Originally a terraformed world, but an accident with gravitic technologies destroyed the planet. One teletranser to Paydirt remains active despite the devastation, and the Confederation still sends salvagers to search the shattered remains.

Troust

A partially terraformed world, tidally locked with its red giant primary. The terraforming process introduced a thick cloud cover to mitigate temperature extremes, but the unusual climate forced settlers to enclose the few cities in protective domes.

Venus

Our planet's closest neighbor, Venus has been terraformed and settled by humanity. Scientists routinely monitor the planet to ensure the terraforming process doesn't reverse itself.

Wellimome

Another terraformed world, and a major hub within the Confederation.

Yuhexie

A rugged, storm-wracked world where the terraforming only partially succeeded. Now used as a penal colony.
